If you’re craving apple pie, it’s likely because you want something warm, sweet, and just a little bit spicy. To make delicious baked apple slices, start by (you guessed it), slicing up an apple. We like a nice fresh Granny Smith for this task. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and put your sliced apples into a baking dish, tossing them with a couple tablespoons of melted butter and cinnamon. Then bake them for about thirty minutes or until they are tender enough. The baking process brings out the natural sweetness in the apples while the cinnamon adds a beautiful flavor. For something extra tasty, top a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt with the warm apples and dig in!
If you’re dying for a slice of pumpkin pie, try… a baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter.
Sweet potatoes are perhaps one of the best alternatives for baked goods. Heat the oven to 400 degrees and use a fork to pierce several holes into a sweet potato (nothing kills an appetite like a potato explosion). Place the potato on a baking sheet (you can line this with foil for easy cleanup) and bake for about 45 minutes or until you can easily pierce it with a fork.
Then, slice the potato down the middle and top it with cinnamon and butter. For extra sweetness, add a light sprinkling of brown sugar.
