Fall is here and if you’re like us, you’ve been tempted with sugary pumpkin lattes and homemade baked goods everywhere you go. We get it! While our gym supplements are known for their great flavors, we know that sometimes you need something a little more sweet to satisfy a craving for your favorite fall treats. While indulging in a baked good every now and then is totally fine, making healthy decisions when you have the opportunity can keep you feeling great and performing at your peak in the gym.
To help you make some choices, we’re offering some tasty alternatives to your favorite fall treats! Check them out below!
If you're craving an apple pie, try… baked apple slices and cinnamon.
If you’re craving apple pie, it’s likely because you want something warm, sweet, and just a little bit spicy. To make delicious baked apple slices, start by (you guessed it), slicing up an apple. We like a nice fresh Granny Smith for this task. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and put your sliced apples into a baking dish, tossing them with a couple tablespoons of melted butter and cinnamon. Then bake them for about thirty minutes or until they are tender enough. The baking process brings out the natural sweetness in the apples while the cinnamon adds a beautiful flavor. For something extra tasty, top a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt with the warm apples and dig in!
If you’re dying for a slice of pumpkin pie, try… a baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter.
Sweet potatoes are perhaps one of the best alternatives for baked goods. Heat the oven to 400 degrees and use a fork to pierce several holes into a sweet potato (nothing kills an appetite like a potato explosion). Place the potato on a baking sheet (you can line this with foil for easy cleanup) and bake for about 45 minutes or until you can easily pierce it with a fork.
Then, slice the potato down the middle and top it with cinnamon and butter. For extra sweetness, add a light sprinkling of brown sugar.
If you would love a mug of hot chocolate, try… our Chocolate Brownie protein shake.
Our chocolate protein powder has all of the rich flavors of a mug of hot chocolate but without the guilt (or sugar or fillers or carbs). It’s also lactose-free, making it a great option for those who can’t find a tasty hot chocolate that agrees with their stomach. But, perhaps best of all, it’s packed with 25 grams of protein per scoop, meaning it will not only satisfy your craving for hot chocolate, it will also fill you up and fuel you for a few hours. To make this clean protein shake extra tasty and to satisfy your sweet tooth, use unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead of water and top it with a dollop of whipped cream.
If you would sell your left arm for a pumpkin cupcake with cream cheese frosting, try… healthy pumpkin pancakes.
Or, honestly, just eat the cupcake if you need to and do double duty at the gym later. Life’s too short to not eat pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. But, if you do want to stick to a healthy diet this fall, try making some warm and fluffy pumpkin spice pancakes. We found a decent-looking recipe that involves making pancakes from scratch using buckwheat flour, but a quick Google search for ‘healthy pumpkin pancakes’ will return a lot of tasty looking results!
